All about Lubbock Live: What it is, when and where, how you can support and more

After a year-long delay to the pandemic, the inaugural Lubbock Live: Festival for the Arts is finally launching at full throttle.

Made by Lubbock residents for Lubbock residents — and really anyone else who wants to come — the festival was branded to celebrate artists of all expertise and mediums and give back to Lubbock’s art community.

What is Lubbock Live?

Lubbock Live: Festival for the Arts will showcase dozens of great artists from across the city in one single place … through live music, dancing, visual arts — and any other type of art you can imagine.

Some of Lubbock’s most talented musicians and bands will come together to celebrate the all-day festival.

Aaron Smith is coming with fresh acoustic tunes, while Gypsy Jayne will bring a powerful voice to her set of folk-blues originals. You’ll be able to boogie to Americana rock with the up-and-coming Ronnie and the Redwoods; take a trip down with Soaphead and its psychedelic music; and groove to Indego’s progressive rock set. Drew Cypert’s one-man band is innovative with homemade instruments made from cigar boxes, suitcases and used stereo equipment. And the festival’s founder and organizer Jeremy Couture will bring an infectious sound with his band’s memorable pop-rock lyrics and beats.

When and where is Lubbock Live?

The festival has two stages: Plaza Stage near LHUCA and Two Docs. It will last all day, August 28! The first live set will begin at 10 a.m. at the Plaza stage, and the final set will end at 11 p.m. at Two Docs.

A full schedule of musicians can be found online.

Is it too late to be part of this year’s festival?

Not at all! While the music lineup is permanent, vendors and food trucks can still join the party by filling out an application online. Additionally, Lubbock Live is already accepting submissions for next year’s event. The open call is for all area artists and musicians.

How can Lubbock Live be supported?

Sponsor the event. There are still remaining sponsorships. Reserve a spot via email or go online to learn more.

Donate. The Lubbock Live website has an option to donate online. The donation page features an itemized list of expenditures, totaling an approximate event cost of $24,000. The remainder will be donated to Lubbock ISD’s fine arts departments this year. Each year, the festival’s staff and board will select a different organization to benefit.

Become a vendor. There are still two food truck spots and four vendor spots available for purchase.

Buy a ticket. Ticket costs are $15 for general admission and $5 for children 10 and under.

Spread the word. Text your friends. Post on social media. Tell the stranger sitting next to you at the bar.
